Li-ion Battery Management ICs

Renesas Electronics Li-ion Battery Management ICs are an entire range of battery management ICs that address the needs of handheld devices, Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), laptops, power tools, and many others. This is accomplished with fully integrated solutions for compact applications and with charge controllers for higher power applications. These devices include 3-to-8 Cell Li-ion Battery Pack Monitors (ISL94203), 4-to-6 Cell Li-ion Battery Management Analog Front-End (ISL94208), and Multi-Cell Li-Ion Battery Managers (ISL94212).

ISL94208 Battery Management ICs

Renesas ISL94208 Battery Management ICs feature an analog front-end with overcurrent protection for multi-cell Li-ion battery packs. These ICs are used with a microcontroller and support battery packs consisting of 4 to 6 cells in series and one or more cells in parallel. Using an internal analog multiplexer, the ISL94208 allows a separate microcontroller with an analog-to-digital converter to monitor each cell voltage plus internal and external temperature. Renesas ISL94208 provides integral overcurrent and short circuit protection circuitry, an internal 3.3V voltage regulator, internal cell balancing switches, and drive circuitry for external FET devices to control pack charge and discharge.
